The Seven Sisters
Kiora everybody today I will be talking about the seven sisters.
Incase you didnt know matariki is a cluster of stars and it is a sign of the new year.
Here is my story.
A long time ago there were seven brother in Makatu in NZ, the youngest brother Matai loved magic.
He could fly with wind, ride on a rainbow and do other magical things. The other brothers
were not intressed in magic. None of the brothers had married anyone in thier tribe
because they would not settle for anyone less beautiful for themselves.
Ond day when the brothers went hunting they heard beautiful seven voices singing and ofcourse they went to check what it was. And what they found were seven beautiful women golden hair and skin so white it shone like stars. All the brothers emmidietly fell in love all except for Matai.
Mataia worned the brothers women with such beaty can only bring harm to the village.
The brothers did not mind Matai and took the women to the village to make
them thier wives. Matai did not the like his brothers wives. They did not take part in village life choosing only to sing and comb their long golden hair. All the brothersw were not big strong handsome men. They did not do thier chores anymore because they were to busy hunting fish for thier wives. Matai became suspices of the wives. One day Mataia went to spy on the wives.
It seemed that the wives never left thier homes. Matai saw 6 bird sitting on a branch and one flew out of the house. Then they all transformed into the seven wives.
Matai ran to his brothers to tell them of thier wives plan. At first the brothers did not beilieve Matai
untill he told them:my brother we used to be big strong
handsome men now look at yourselfs you are nothing but skin and bone.
Mataias brothers looked at eachother and ralised Matai was right.
Matai's brothers said that they need a plan. Thenaext day the brothers went to uru the chief.
Uru told them that the women were Patupaiarhere, and they had long been looking
for away to come to this land. The chief gave them magical nets to cacht the Patupaiarehe.
The next day the brothers were waiting for the wives to come out of thier homes and one by one they cought the wives. When the wives saw that the brothers had cought them they begged and pleeded to let them go. And with heavy sad heart the brothers who loved the women were mad and sad.
Matai turned in to an albatross and flew the women to Tamanui-te-ra the god of the stars.
Even the god of the stars began to fall for the womens beauty but matai told
Tamanui-te-ra to put the women in the fathest heavens.
And the god of the stars did.
Now once a year Tamanui-te-ra let the womens beauty shine
by turning them into a constlation.
And that is one of the maori myths I know.
Hope you enjoyed my story.
Blog you latter my bloggers.

Kia Ora Ayo, thanks for sharing this story of the Seven Sisters. It is not one that I've heard before, so I found it really interesting and I'm impressed that you wrote it in your own words. Did you create this in googledocs first? If so, maybe use the dictionary next time just to check your spellings before publishing. I'm impressed to see that you are blogging so early in our lockdown experience. Ka pai Ayo - keep up the great work! I'll look forward to your next post.
ReplyDeleteHi Ayo, what an amazing story! You have retold the story very well. Perhaps when school opens again you might be able to find more myth stories in the library, to read. There are so many cool New Zealand stories to discover!
ReplyDeleteFrom Austin's mum.
Ohayo gozmaste Ayo
ReplyDeleteWow you explained Matariki very very well
maybe next time you could get rid of that big blank space but you still did very well at telling about the Matariki story
Have a good cherry morning
Ma Te Wa Eva
Kia ora Ayo. I really enjoyed reading your recollection of the seven sisters. That was amazing! Do you enjoy writing? Maybe next time before you publish one of your brilliant stories, use paragraphs. Paragraphs is like a group of 3 or more sentences (around a topic or main idea). This makes it easier to see and read. Great blogpost about Matariki. Tino pai!
